Statement Chair and Resource Guide

One Kings Lane reached out to me to let me know they love a good statement chair and asked if I could share one of mine to help introduce their new home decor resource guide.

Aside from being a great source for designer deals, now you can search One Kings Lane for info and history on some of your favorite furniture styles and pieces, broken down by period and type. A quick way to educate yourself, if you ask me. Way faster than having to go back and reference my design textbooks.

When I first reupholstered my vintage french provincial wingback chairs with a bold ikat fabric, I was worried I would get tired of them fairly soon thereafter. I tend to get over decor items and want to change things up more often than I could afford. But surprisingly, a few years later I still really dig them. A classic pattern on a traditional chair in a fun color makes for one, actually two since they come in a pair, big statement.

They're certainly the main focal point in the room. Even though there is color and pattern throughout the space, these two pieces really flank the room and help make the overall layout feel balanced.

The good thing about a great statement chair is it doesn't necessarily have to have a bold color or print, use the One Kings Lane home decor resource guide to find a statement chair that suits your style.

Happy searching.

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas!

Color Inspired Tablesetting

I liked the combination of colors this J Crew model is wearing so much I thought it would make a great example of how to translate it into a tablesetting. This approach works any time I need color inspiration actually. I see a pretty image, vibrant artwork or colorful fabric and I use it to pull a color story from.

Here a winter fresh look can easily transform into a tablescape for Spring. I think I found my new favorite plates.

Light Up

I have a thing for candles. Even more than their scent, I think I mostly just like the variety of designs they come in. They're great for styling on a coffee table, bookcase, vanity and are extra useful in the bathroom.

They're the perfect gift for someone you don't know that well but still want to show you put in some effort.

This holiday season, if you're unsure of what to gift that colleague, secret santa, neighbor, hostess, babysitter, drug dealer (just kidding), below are some statement candles that they may even want to keep long after it's burnt out. No.5 is ideal for stashing whatever it is you need to stash. Two and four work for holding makeup brushes, pencils, even simple flowers.

Christmas Ornaments

I'm back. At least for today. No clue if or when I could get back to posting regularly. My brain is still mush sometimes and feel like I function off of spurts of adrenaline. I come up with blog post ideas and somewhere between diaper changing and boob feeding, I forget to write them down. I should just start coming up with ideas for April because at this rate, it takes me weeks to finish up each post. I was like, I better get this Christmas ornament post up before it's Valentine's Day. At least they'll be on sale.

Felix just turned one month yesterday so he should be old enough to start guest posting for me soon. His current hobbies include stroller rides through the neighborhood and keeping his parents up at night.

We're purchasing our tree soon and every year we buy at least one new ornament that represents that particular year but most of the time I just want to start fresh and decorate it in what ever color scheme I'm liking at the moment.  This year I'm liking pinks, yellows and lots of sparkle. Every year should have lots of sparkle, actually.

I realize this is now more about Felix than me so I should start looking for some baby's 1st Christmas type stuff, but these sure are pretty to look at.

Wanting: Winter Coat

We've been experiencing some summer weather here yet I'm thinking about coats. Nice big, warm, cozy coats. We're due for some cold weather so I should probably be prepared.

Vmac tweeted about this coat the other day and I was like, ohmygawd, you're so perfect. Wear me.

Being the frugal girl that I am, I searched for more affordable options so if you're in need of a coat too, here you go.

winter_coats_edited-1

one - faux fur hooded parka. Pretty color and great price.

two - I like the way the buttons are up at the top and flares out at the bottom, giving the illusion of a waist.

three - there's a memo going around that pink coats are like so in, so I'm just fwding the message. Plus, I really like the contrasting collar.

four - camel-colored coat; classic. If you treat it well, you'll have it forever.

five - another great price. Nice big collar to keep you extra warm and I love the belt, again accentuating the waist.

six - back to little Mrs. Perfect. Edgy and classic. You're like what I wish I was. Leather sleeves, zipper detail and great silhouette. I seriously love you.

Happy Thursday!

Felix Bae Lovett and His Nursery

And just like that I had a baby. Ha, I wish it was just like that. It was more like 17 hours and 30 mins of pushing and baby finally came out, on November 1st at 9:18 am. Not too bad considering some of the stories I've heard. I actually think my labor was less scary than I had imagined and my overall pregnancy went by pretty smoothly so I  definitely consider myself lucky, which brings me to our baby's name: Felix.

When looking through a baby name book with over 10o,000 names, I was starting to feel overwhelmed and felt like we were going to arrive at the hospital nameless. We knew we wanted a baby name that started with an F to commemorate TH's grandpa's name, Fred. I wanted a name that could easily translate from English to Spanish and nothing on the popular list. It was TH who came across Felix and as the name slipped off his tongue nonchalantly, I remember saying, wait say that again. I liked it pretty much immediately. Short, strong, familiar but not particularly common; it was the definition though that really sold us.

Felix: one who is happy and prosperous; lucky, favored by luck or the lucky one.

Furthermore, reminding me of a quote that TH's dad always says, "I'd rather have luck than skill any day."

It took us a bit longer to decide on a middle name. For a while, I wasn't really sure I wanted one but then thought it'd be nice to give him a name in honor of TH's 93-year-old grandma who's been asking for a baby pretty much since we got married. So we took Baeila, the name TH's grandma was named after and shortened it to Bae.

While in the hospital, Sabra emailed me the pictures she took of Felix's nursery and I finally got some time to look through them and share.

Remember before it was just a guest room where the dogs loved to hang out? I never really put any effort into decorating it because I knew it would one day be a baby's room.

And now it's Felix's room.

I knew I wanted to create a window seat for our dogs to continue to hang out on, with drawers underneath for extra storage and bookshelves on either side for displaying books and personal accessories.

Baby's only friends right now.

Green pillows gifted to me by Arianna Belle.

Striped fabric is from Calico Corners and window fabric is from Perennials, welted in fabric I had leftover from another project.

I found this vintage artwork on Etsy titled, Mexican Journey, as a reminder of his heritage.

The Aviary wallpaper, from Schumacher, was the jumping off point. Cool little birds that remind me of TH's nickname, baby bird, still used by his mom.

The moose toy rocker is from IKEA. Moose was a nickname I briefly gave TH when we were first married.

Sparrow crib from Oeuf with sprout kite sheets from Serena and Lily.

I had the campaign style dresser/changing table custom made and lacquered in Benjamin Moore Stratford Blue.

Rocker and midcentury footstool were both found on Etsy. The rocker, however, was refinished and reupholstered.

New Desk

Now that our guest room slash office has turned into a nursery, TH no longer has a desk and has moved his computer onto the dining room table.

The man deserves a proper work station and so I'm on the hunt for a new desk for him.

Surprise! I know you read this TH so pick one. No really, pick no. one. Or five.

I like them all but those two are my favorite.

A new desk means I'll have a bit of rearranging to do but should be able to create at least an area for him to sit at that doesn't involve moving his stuff when it's time to eat dinner.

And new desk means... new desk chairrrr! But that's for another post. Maybe.

Happy Tuesday!

Full-Term

It's almost show time, guys.

I'm now 37 weeks pregnant which, for you non preg lingo types, that means baby is cooked up and healthy enough to make his appearance any time from now until my due date (Nov 9th). I doubt I'll be late, but again, I'm no Doctor. Just slightly psychic. According to my due date though, I still have three weeks to go but if baby is ready that means I have no choice but to be ready too. But I'm seriously hoping he's not ready so I don't have to cancel my plans for this coming weekend.

Other than getting my hospital bag ready, I think we're pretty good to go. And as of Friday, you can consider the nursery done. It's done!

Here's a short montage of some of the room's major changes alongside the growth of my baby bump.

BabyBump_edited-3

Yesterday Sabra Lattos came by to photograph the room and will hopefully get to share those soon.

Happy Monday!

Halloween Picks

Halloween is in the air and although I'm always late to bust out the decorations, this holiday is my favorite.

There's a chance Baby Lovett can actually be born on Halloween and I just think it'll be hilarious bringing him home in a costume. Forget stopping by at home first, let's get this kid trick-or-treating.

And I probably just jinxed myself.

Hang in there kid. Make it to November.

Back to Halloween, here's a roundup of some items I'm currently digging to get us all into the spirit.

Boo.
