Statement Chair and Resource Guide

One Kings Lane reached out to me to let me know they love a good statement chair and asked if I could share one of mine to help introduce their new home decor resource guide.

Aside from being a great source for designer deals, now you can search One Kings Lane for info and history on some of your favorite furniture styles and pieces, broken down by period and type. A quick way to educate yourself, if you ask me. Way faster than having to go back and reference my design textbooks.

statement chair

When I first reupholstered my vintage french provincial wingback chairs with a bold ikat fabric, I was worried I would get tired of them fairly soon thereafter. I tend to get over decor items and want to change things up more often than I could afford. But surprisingly, a few years later I still really dig them. A classic pattern on a traditional chair in a fun color makes for one, actually two since they come in a pair, big statement.

They're certainly the main focal point in the room. Even though there is color and pattern throughout the space, these two pieces really flank the room and help make the overall layout feel balanced.

The good thing about a great statement chair is it doesn't necessarily have to have a bold color or print, use the One Kings Lane home decor resource guide to find a statement chair that suits your style.

Happy searching.

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas!

It's almost show time, guys.

I'm now 37 weeks pregnant which, for you non preg lingo types, that means baby is cooked up and healthy enough to make his appearance any time from now until my due date (Nov 9th). I doubt I'll be late, but again, I'm no Doctor. Just slightly psychic. According to my due date though, I still have three weeks to go but if baby is ready that means I have no choice but to be ready too. But I'm seriously hoping he's not ready so I don't have to cancel my plans for this coming weekend.

Other than getting my hospital bag ready, I think we're pretty good to go. And as of Friday, you can consider the nursery done. It's done!

Here's a short montage of some of the room's major changes alongside the growth of my baby bump.

Yesterday Sabra Lattos came by to photograph the room and will hopefully get to share those soon.

Happy Monday!

House Trip

A few weeks ago, the Fab girls from A Fab Life came over and toured my house for an episode of their show, House Trip.

I've shared many a pictures of my house but now you get to see a virtual tour. And I'm sort of the guide. And I was nervous and after watching it, I couldn't help but think, gawd, do I really sound like that? And when did I get into enunciating my esssssses?

If you come tour my house without any cameras, I'm pretty certain I'll be much more relaxed. Bring wine.

Nora has great camera presence. Mostly just presence. Bams was being lazy as usual and only made a quick cameo. Probably because he smelled food.

Leah and Mary are such great hosts and I'm way flattered they asked me to be on one of their episodes.

So please click on the image above and watch!

Saturday evening and most of Sunday was spent putting our house back together. And although I'm still tired from reorganizing, I didn't really mind it at all because I'm so happy with the way our floors turned out. I'd just look down and admire every time I had to walk back and forth. The house feels slighter bigger and I think all the color I have going on is toned down.

Even TH, who was so anti, couldn't stop saying how much better this new look is.

So after emptying out every room and closet and managing to squeeze all of our junk into our family room..

(This must be what hoarding feels like)

livingroom now feels so fresh and so clean, clean.

Even though I didn't end up going with gray, depending on the way the light hits these, you'll notice some gray undertones. Or at least I do.

Now we just need to retouch our baseboards. But it were up to me, I'd have them replaced with ones with more height and detail. It never ends.

Happy Monday!

Blue to Gray

I had some time over the weekend to snap a quick photo of the newly painted gray walls in our family room.

I'm liking this so much better. Feels a lot more calm. Click here to compare and contrast the before.

I even switched out the pillows for my Society Social ones.

You might have also noticed that orange season is coming to an end. The last time we bought orange juice was in November!

I also came to the realization that I won't ever have nice drapes in this room. Bams thinks I don't know it's him who marks his territory. He's lucky he's cute.

I also tell Nora if she doesn't behave she's going to end up like that faux sheepskin throw. She thinks I'm kidding.

And for the rest of my weekend, I did a whole lot of not much.

Happy Monday!

Bye Bye Blue

This room was painted over the weekend. Goodbye blue sunroom/family room. You had a good run. This color probably received the most compliments. I loved that it was my first bold move, but I just had enough. This room has never really felt right. It's mostly a hodge podge of stuff from our first apartment and items I've thrown in to try to make it work. It's coming along but it'll be a while until I feel it's really done. So it was painted gray and I'm loving it so much more. I need to move a few things around - spring clean if you will - and will then share its new state soon.

And while we're on the topic of Spring, come visit me on The Peak of Tres Chic where I share some items to spruce up your bedroom for the new Season.

Happy Monday!

Holiday Shrub

Meet our holiday shrub. One day I will buy a proper topper. I haven't found one I like. Until then, Nora's birthday hat will have to do. It's actually kind of festive. And indicative of our party personalities.

Have a great weekend!

New House Plant. Not a Fiddle Leaf Fig.

You may recall this post where I pointed out my dying plant.

Rest in peace.

You might also notice some wicker chairs (TH).

I'm sure I've also mentioned how I move stuff around when I want to feel like I have new stuff without spending money.

So I moved these chairs into our living room and when I asked TH if he liked them in the living room, he said, I thought these were in the living room.

I'm perplexed as to how his brain registers green ikat for wicker. I know he's a little color blind but I'm beginning to think he's furniture blind too. Sucks he's also not credit card statement blind otherwise I'd have a different stile house once a month and he'd think the house still looks the way it did when we first moved in.

You know what he does notice? Plants. As in he notices when I don't water them so when I came home with a new one, he said he'd make sure to keep it alive. I'm in charge of rotating it so it gets the right amount of sun every day. Deal.

Meet my not a fiddle leaf fig plant. Are you aware we're living in a world where even plants are trendy? Shoes, bags, even baby names. I get that. But plants? Okay fine, but let's not ever make putting your dog in a purse trendy. Oh wait.

Here's to plants.

To plants!

Happy Tuesday.

Bedroom Changes

Whenever I want a change but don't necessarily want to spend the money, I move stuff around. I highly suggest it.

Or, you can hire me and I'll do it for you.

This time I changed some stuff around in our bedroom.

You might remember what it looked like from this post.

It was almost too calm for me, so I quickly got a new duvet cover to bring in some pizzaz.

Note: we get a ton of sunlight in this room. Who needs an alarm clock when the sun's in your face at 6:30 in the morning.

A DVF duvet cover on super sale via One Kings Lane.

My ten dollar art from the living room that I bought at a neighborhood yard sale.

The temporary chiavari chair I've had sitting in our dining room.

A leopard pillow I bought with the gift card Arianna Belle gave me for my birthday.

And a $50 chevron rug I bought at Home Goods. I know, chevron is like so done, but I think I was swayed by the price.

I also finally ended up adding some trim to my cheapo drapes. Too bad you can't make out the pretty design, but you may be able to tell it picks up the wall color.

That's it. Some changes without spending any additional money.

Try this at home.

Happy Thursday!

The Organized Office

Yesterday I cleaned my office. I'd say it was a proud moment.

Once upon a time it looked like this.

One day I got bored and moved some furniture around.

It quickly became a mess.

Then I got hit by the productive bug and cleaned it up.

Although the lamp isn't mine. It belongs to a client.

I only really have two lamps, so I think I need the third.

The cockadoo fighters were given to me by my mother-in-law's friend.  Office now feels edgy.

Let's see how long it stays like this.

Hope you all have a great weekend!
