Let The Wild Rumpus Start

Back when I previewed my nephew's nursery I said we were waiting for a piece of art.

We're still waiting for it!

I've never really had any issues with Etsy, but the shop we ordered the print from seems to think five weeks to ship a print is standard. I've waited less for custom furniture.

They're also pretty unresponsive to emails and last I clicked on the shop's link, it seems they've jumped ship.

I could get all pissy about it or just move on.

We moved on (temporarily) and took pictures without it.

I did improvise a bit and mocked a chalkboard with the cardboard that came inside the frame purchased for the print.

Up on that wall should read, Dream Big Little One.

Sad face.

Blanket on glider was made by a friend's mom.

Giraffes seemed to be the gender neutral animal of choice.

The blanket is from blissbaby - an Etsy shop we can trust.

It was made by my sister's friend.

Crib bed skirt was made from the fabric we used for the baby shower.

Here's a before shot of the room.

Here are Max's thoughts on the Etsy shop that took too long:

Happy Wednesday!

Nephew's Nursery: Preview

Now that I have a nephew, I feel like I should move into my sister's place. My mom is already staying with her for a few days and if I came to stay too, I'm sure my brother-in-law would LOVE it.

I want to be there all the time because I don't want to miss anything. All Max really does is sleep, but in case he opens his eyes, I think I should be there.

Ohmygawd, he moved his hand. Look how cute he breathes.

You get the picture.

I went for a visit yesterday and I took a few close up shots of his room. We're waiting on just one piece of artwork and then we're ready for more photos.

Say cheese!

Here's a lamp handed down from his grandma on his dad's side that I spray painted yellow.

Before.

Next to the lamp is a picture of some boots with the furrr that I picked up from our trip to Peru.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7233/7153055207_1cd8b4af49.jpg

I framed my wishes for baby from the baby shower. The idea was to swap out the wishes. Ahhh, grandma's coming, put in her wishes. And so on.

One of my wishes for baby is for him to grow up not being scared of knives. Like me, his aunt. I have an inexplicable fear of knives. I think it's normal. But if baby wants to grow up to be a chef, he's in trouble.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7056/7006963148_f79a71a641.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7260/7153058077_92d8bd3b73.jpg

The llama was also a gift from Peru. The giraffe next to it was a gift from my mother-in-law.

The shelf they're sitting on used to be in my room from when I was 12. At this point, I'd say it's an heirloom.

The mobile on the right is a gift from his aunt from his dad's side.

Baby got a ton of gifts and it's not even Christmas.

I wanna be born again.

Oh, and PS - The stripes are peach. Like a salmon, or sherbert. Not pink, promise.

Nursery Pouf

This darling pouf has been on my mind lately.

It's like having your own little sheep without having to deal with any of the mess.

I think it's perfect for a nursery.

And according to these images, including a pouf into a nursery is still all the rage.

Maybe I'll gift it to my nephew-(or niece)-to-be.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Oh, Baby

Guess who's having a baby?

Give up?

If you guessed me...

....you are...

wrong.

Phew, dodged that bullet {gulps some wine}. For now.

My sister is the one who got knocked up, and this will be the closest little person I'll have to calling my own.

And for the first time ever, I think my name will finally suit me. Aunt Irene. I always thought of Irene as an old lady name and to baby, I will always be considered old. There's also a pretty good chance baby will be born on my birthday, May 12th. Stealing my thunder already. We're gonna bond so hard. Go Taureans!

So baby will either be a boy or a girl. I'm so smart. But we won't know until my sister pushes and pushes some more. That just means my sister and brother-in-law decided not to find out the sex. I know, suspense. My guess is it's a boy.

As the family waits in anticipation for baby's arrival, I've got the nursery to decorate. A gender neutral nursery can be somewhat of a challenge because obviously you don't want to sway toward the too girly or too boyish. The inspiration came from a Where The Wild Things Are print my sister received from one of her former students (she's a teacher). She also really wanted to incorporate some stripes (they look pinkish in the mood board, but they're more of an orange sherbet), yellow (favorite color) and a chalkboard.

Here are some items I came up with.

Decorating my little nephew's (or niece's) nursery has me all sorts of emotional and I should probably get going 'cause now I'm crying.

Happy Monday!

Music to My Eyes: Cat Power

https://farm7.staticflickr.com/6120/6381845189_a6ecfb9958.jpg https://farm7.staticflickr.com/6116/6381919627_f200f050d4.jpg

Any time I think of Cat Power I think of this song, which was actually on a Handsome Boy Modeling School album. Song is hottttt, as in zexy and it always takes me back to the holiday season. TH would play the HBMS album all the time. I was beginning to think it was the only cd he owned. Song is a total baby maker, hence the nursery.

Happy Tuesday!

Baby Baby

Friday night I held the cutest little two-month old baby. He was so quiet, I was almost convinced the mom thing could be easy. For a minute I thought I even heard a clock ticking, but I quickly set that clock to snooze, or whatever setting doesn't go off in another ten minutes.

Even though there's no baby making it's way to Casa de designstILes, I can't help but save nursery photos in their proper inspiration folder. And for someone who loves all the cutesy, girly decor, I wish to one day have boys to decorate a nursery for.

I do not hear a tick tock, I do not hear a tick tock...

But I'll share some nurseries with you anyway.

Girl's Nursery

Another nursery?!? I can't help it, they're so cute. And yesterday when I saw these prints via The NEO-traditionalist, I knew I had to take a dab at incorporating them into the space I'm not quite ready to reproduce in real life.

https://theneotraditionalist.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/french-alphabet-print-2-vintage-flamingo-illustration-print.jpg https://theneotraditionalist.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/french-alphabet-print-3-vintage-zebra-ilustration.jpg

You see, when I am ready, I can come back to this little bloggy and feel completely inspired by what I've created, or totally hate it. Either way, I'll think, Damn Irene, you were way smart keeping all these files stored up like this. And then I'll be like, I know. Remember when I used to throw everything out and never wrote anything down because I was certain my memory would never fail on me. How dumb was I? Don't answer.

How classy, these prints are in French! Although I should probably be more concerned with teaching our kid(s) Español.

The real kicker was this crib.

https://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/0113352_PE265511_S3.JPG

I'll be honest, I was stuck on what to blog about and you can thank this crib here that you have something to feast your eyes on today.

Being from IKEA, I kinda fear that my baby could fall through, but doesn't this color put the un in fun.

The baby will need a dresser/changing table combo. This one from Wal-Mart would save me some money.

https://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/05/69/27/07/0005692707562_215X215.jpg

Once the crib and changing table were found, the next step was the area rug. And in came one from West Elm.

Yes, it's cowhide and yes it's okay for a nursery.

This picture says so.

https://www.decorpad.com/photos/2010/06/06/a151d3b70f17.jpg

These walls need some paint color. A pale pink is what the doctor designer ordered. It's Valspar's Paris Pink and plays in nicely with the French Alphabet prints.

A glider to sit on while this baby gets fed and a turquoise pouf to rest a tired mama's feet. Both from Serena and Lily.

A few more accessories and the end result will look sorta like this:

Girl's Nursery

Leather hanging mirrors, also from Serena and Lily. The pink glass base lamp is from IKEA. The tree stump side table is from West Elm. Robert Allen fabric in houndstooth will be used to make a roman shade. Ta-da.

stILe finds: Boy's Nursery

Nope, still not pregnant.

I spied on The Sistah's facebook comments after she posted about my mention in the SFGate and read her pregnant friend's comment that asked if I'd design her nursery. She may have been kinda joking, but I'm dead serious and created an inspiration board with no clue as to what she even has in mind for her little man. Here's what I came up with.

Boys Nursery

In case you're wondering what those two dots are on the top left corner, they're paint swatches. The darker hue would be an accent wall and the three remaining walls would be painted in the lighter color. The crib is from The New Traditionalists. The black and white striped rug is from IKEA, as is the white side chair, which I thought should have a throw pillow made from fabric from here. The giraffe lamp is Jonathan Adler. Bamboo Shades can be found at Home Depot and Lowe's, I'm sure. Espresso changing table adds contrast amongst the white crib and side chair. Two custom wall prints from here and here bring in personal touches, and the seagull one I've had my eye on since April.

High Five to all the Mom-to-Be's,

Irene Lovett

I Spy...

Birds. I've been loving little birdies since I decided I was going for a nature/vintage/glam theme in our home - with birds falling into the nature category. Plus, my mother-in-law has been calling Evan Baby Bird since forever so that may be the underlying real reason for my attraction.

Either way, these little birdies are way adorable and can't help but continue to spot them in pillows, accessories, wallpaper and figurines. Here are some of my favorite.

Birds on the ceiling - such a cute idea. And really loving the bird houses on the wall as well.

Baby On The Way

When there's a baby on the way, a nursery is soon to follow. No, I'm not pregnant. Even though I sometimes wish one was coming just so I can design a cute little nursery, (and stop family from hinting to have one) but my time will come.

My friend Kim was due to give birth to her first baby three days ago, but it appears that little Ella is not ready to make an appearance. Kim is the first of my close friends to have a baby and I'm extremely eager and excited to meet Ella as I am excited for Kim to be a first-time mom. Unfortunately, Kim lives out-of-state so it could be months until I meet Ella and see her cute little nursery. Kim also happens to be a former Interior Design classmate so I'm definitely looking forward to see what she's come up with. Maybe I can convince her to let me post some pics. : )

While we wait for Ella to arrive, I'll share some of my all time favorite nurseries. Maybe this will induce labor.

Picture from the beloved and discontinued Domino.

This has to be the most adorable nursery I have ever come across. Cuter than words can express.

I would've never thought black could work this well in a baby's room. The stripes on the ceiling add visual interest and are highly creative.

Perfectly stILed for a photoshoot. The color choices work so well together, making the room feel warm and cozy. The polka dot chandelier shades are eye-catching.

This room can be a perfect transition from baby room to big-girl-room. The turquoise (love that turquoise) pops perfectly against the fuchsia. And the black striped crib skirt adds a touch of sophistication.
